The reason most people can not comprehend the idea that Space is neither expanding nor contracting and that is just is already infinitely extends for eternity in all directions from any reference point is for the same reason that it could not be so and yet finished…
that is to say, for example, take carpenters retractable tape. in order for the tape measure to be finished at some point, a finite length enables the completion of its construction such that the finite length of the wind up retractable tape can be placed into the containing unit in order for it to be usable.
for it is impossible to construct a wind up measuring tape of infinite length in so much as one would be able to measure something of ever increasing length that would otherwise exceed the length of the tape that could be extracted… lest little green men were inside the finished product continually adding to the length of the tape as it were needed to measure something of infinite length while continually extracting the tape never being able to pull it out to a finite length to complete the measurement as the length of what is attempting to be measured can never be measured as the end of the measurement can never be reached since there is no end to the length, width, or height of the size of the universe which is nothing but space which contains all things inside it that may or may not be moving further apart or closer to gather… that is they move from each other but both are contained in the container of the measuring instrument jests as the instrument is also contained within the space of the universe neither of which have a beginning or an ending point with which to reference…
that is why space extends beyond the distance between any two given points of any given distance apart form one another as there are always additional points that exist beyond the two in question.
consider a fraction or a whole number, as long as one can continually add numbers to the size of a number, and call it a measurement regardless of unit size, one can always write a bigger number… the scope of the universe in determining its size or volume is impossible as that number is ever approaching infinity in immensity as it has no limit or finite volume or area as it has no boundary or limit to its size…
since it seems impossible to make a ruler of infinite length to measure something like unto itself, i.e., something infinite in length, the concept of the universe itself being able to already be infinite in its extension in all directions outward from any given point seems impossible lest it itself be ever increasing in size just as the ruler must in order to measure it…
Time is a word as well as a measurement, not taken, does not exist…
once taken is finite as it is a measurement already taken…
without the aid of a clock to record time measurements, we could no longer ask what time is it for any answer given is only relevant to a standard which had come to be agreed upon…
everything that exists does so simultaneously… thus time is the continuality of the existence of all things which age simultaneously at the same rate with out it being measured, age not… for in this realm, there is no negative or positive numbers for the here and now exists only at the origin of the x and y intersection of the number lines… time thus in either direction is always 0. at the origin… that equates to the presence as we speak, witness, and or listen…
what was, was, what is, is, and what will be, will be no matter what anyone may or may not believe or theorize…
before you were, you weren’t… now that you are, you exist, before you did, you didn’t… and once you no longer, you will again not… and life will go on after you’re gone just as it did before you were here… thus do others believe in the dead since they no longer live or the unborn yet since they don’t but might in the future? so what may not of existed, you your self, might come to just as you did… and come to no longer just as what happens when we die… we return to the state we were in before we were born… the state of non-existence…
and yet space continues to hold all things both past and present as well as what will be in the future…
believe it or not!

i doubt that in all of its entireity, the universe does not spread on forever. What may be is that it is not, in fact, one universe but many universes and dimentions overlapping and colliding with eachother.
