Why do Hip Hop artists have managers?

Question by bru86whi: Why do Hip Hop artists have managers?
I suppose its all music artists in general. What do the managers actually do. Are they the ones that deal with like tours and stuff and arrange all that? And just generally looking over the musician themselves? Do you think a good management team is necessary?
