Who were some artists that were abused by the music industry?

Question by I’m a Proud Mexican: Who were some artists that were abused by the music industry?
I’m looking for artists that were taken advantage of by their publishing companies, either by not getting paid enough, or at all, or any other reasons, preferably early 70’s artists.

You might have more luck with managers – I’m sure I read that Billy Joel only made $ 4000 off the Piano Man album – his manager pocketed the rest.
