Question by Kirley: Which minor would go best with a bachelor in Music Business/Industry?
Hello everyone, I am currently a honor student at a community college. I want to transfer to American University in Washington DC to get a Bachelor of Science in Music Business. They offer a list of minors which include the following:
Business Administration (General Business)
Finance
Information Systems and Technology
International Business
Marketing
Which of these minors would best fit into a career in the Music Industry?
The business core courses requirement of the bachelors’ degree itself is emphasized on management courses primarily. Would I be better off knowing more about the money part of the business, the advertising, or the technological side?
A little more info : Never took a marketing course. Took computer programming but didn’t do so well. Took financial and managerial accounting and I loved it. Took International Relations and did well but didn’t love it or hate it – However, I speak/write/read 3 languages fluently.
Thanks!

Business Administration (General Business) or Finance
This will allow you to get a good paying job in a non-music industry while you are looking for your dream music industry job. You don’t need a minor to fit an already Music intense degree. Get a minor that will be your wild card down the road. You never know what you’ll trully end up getting paid to do and what you’ll end doing.
The music industry is changing so quickly that it wouldn’t even be a bad idea to Major in Finance or Buisiness and minor in music. You don’t need a music degree to making in the music buisiness, you need connections and motivation. Know what your doing and aquire the right connections and what a piece of paper says dosen’t mean too much. Most big music companies are cutting down on staff too since most of their market has transformed to a more digital customer.
