When you start music lessons from a private teacher, do you sign a contract or pay as you go?

Question by Lepke: When you start music lessons from a private teacher, do you sign a contract or pay as you go?
If you get music lessons through a private teacher (for clarinet), do you have to sign a contract for a set period of time (like a year) or do you pay weekly as you go? What is the most common increment for lessons (weekly, every two weeks, monthly)? thanks.

I have never heard of anyone signing a contract. Usually you pay as you go.
