The name of the place is called “MUSIC ATTORNEY”.
Believe it or not, Music Attorneys broker most record deals. As a matter of fact, record labels wont talk to the artist because they talk in the language of contracts and most musicians can’t understand that language. Frankly, record labels will insist you get an attorney before they speak to you. Because of this, many entertainment attorneys have connections directly to the labels and can broker the deal – often for a percentage.
I’ve acquired this knowledge by working in this business for the last ten years and I’ve watched a few of the bands I’ve worked with get label deals. One, just this year, with Warner Records.
Finally, it isn’t cheap. An aggressive campaign to get signed can cost around 60k but that is the price you have to pay to get the access. There are always the fairy tale stories about that band that got seen in a club by someone important and got signed but that is very very rare.
good luck
