What type of degree do I need?

Question by cushortcake06: What type of degree do I need?
I want to work in the Music Business, preferably in Los Angeles. I have a bachelor’s in business and will have an MBA in May. No school in LA offers a graduate course in this. NYU, Belmont, and U of Miami are my only options; however, NYU is way too expensive, and I’m worried that the other two will not open enough doors in LA since Nashville (Belmont) is big on country music and Christian pop (not my kind of music ha). Should I obtain a certificate in music business, a second bachelor’s, etc? I’m stumped. Any advice would be appreciated!

The music industry doesn’t require a lot of education. If you’re interested in singing or producing, then vocal training, music technology and producing courses would suit your needs. If you plan to teach music, then a second degree in music would benefit you; however, if you plan to write, produce or sing, then earning a second degree in music will not better your chances in succeeding. Do whatever is best for you. If I were you, I would take some music courses. A degree doesn’t necessarily means you have the best quality or education in that specific discipline.
