What should I put in a contract to protect myself when getting a transmission repaired?

Question by brandon_w12390: What should I put in a contract to protect myself when getting a transmission repaired?
I am about to hire a private person off craigslist to rebuild my transmission. They have all the tools and are going to be working on my vehicle in their garage. I wanted to make a contract with a 1-3 month contract that covers the part failing, also what happens if they take it apart we decide not to continue with work. What else should I put into it so I can hold him liable if he messes up my car?

You can’t get what you think you’re getting from a non-certified mechanic. You’d do as well to buy a used transmission from salvage and get their 90 day replacement guarantee. You don’t trust the guy already. Follow your gut. The Craigslist guy might just be a Gypsy who will turn to smoke as soon as he ships your car off to Mexico.
