My cousin recently joined a band via online for fun. But he hate because the person there is such a snob, he have no freedom whatsoever and it pissing him off and bothering me cause i want to help him be happy. It’s an online VK band and he always want to do VK. So he recently joined as their bassist and its nothing like he hoped for. they asked him what song he wanted to cover so he gave them an American song and they get all pissed because they claim that the song is not VK. From my experience in Japan, VK is a term used for a band that has a visual appearance and plays either rock music or a sub-genre of rock. I admit that music in Japan and America sound different but it’s still rock, or a sub-genre of rock. Then when he picked a song from phantasmagoria and the gazette then they say it’s acceptable but said that he didn’t have to pick a Japanese song.
The band leader claims that he can be the leader because he’s the most fluent in English and started the project. My cousin says that he respects him as the leader because he started the project but not because he’s fluent in English.
My cousin also tries to help out in terms of the business side of the band but they won’t listen to him claiming that his strategy only works for local bands. To summarize his strategy, he just say to get publicity via online by being active on the accounts on sites and uploading covers of recently popular songs to help raise their band in the search engines. Also he mentioned to debut a couple of weeks after New Year’s so people can recover financially. But the leader wants to debut at the end of December, in between Christmas and new years and won’t bother raising publicity. He claims once it’s out, he’ll send it to random record companies which my cousin and I know won’t work because they are certain ways of packaging a CD and notifying the company. The leader wants to get the fanbase to target mainly Japanese people but my cousin say targeting all countries around the world is better because they have a better chance of getting a larger fanbase and mailing list. The leader also doesn’t know what a mailing list or licensing music is, that is what my cousin tells me.
In terms of EXP, I’d say my cousin is better as the business person in the band because he have music business teachers so he know what he’s doing, but he doesn’t mind him as the band leader. Although the leader claims all his ideas and info are all wrong and won’t ever work because the leader is the founder and speaks fluent English.
What should he do? I told him that quitting the band could be an option but he says the VK bands are so rare in the west and that he wants to be one very badly. I don’t know what to tell him, can you help me and does quitting seem to the best option?

It’s obvious that he doesn’t belong in the band, VK or not, he should seek an alternative because he soooo blatantly doesn’t fit with them. Even if a band is to your taste, the members may not be and he needs to move on and find another band who will accept his views and respect him as an individual 😀
