What city would be best to live in for a Producer/Musician ($50,000 – $60,000 a year)?
Question by chickensaladsoup: What city would be best to live in for a Producer/Musician (,000 – ,000 a year)?
I will be going to Berklee School of Music, and majoring in Music Production/Engineering and Music Business/Management. I will also be doing some session guitaring. So I should be pulling in around $ 50,000 – $ 60,000 a year, and if I’m good, that could rise dramatically. But will assume that to be the least.
So what city would be better overall for living expenses, jobs with music, and whatever else?
Boston (I’ll already be in Boston because of Berklee), New York, or if you have another suggestion.

Session guitarist is an unstable job. It can and probably will change dramatically as everything can be done electronically now. There is also not much room to be ‘good’ as a session guitarist as creativity is not part of the job and all guitarists are expected to be perfect.
So the answer to your question: I’ve heard Los Angeles is a good place as it’s pretty warm all year around so sleeping on the streets is not too uncomfortable.
