What are your views on downloading music illegally?

Question by pab: What are your views on downloading music illegally?
Before you answer, here is one thing you may not realize.
When a CD is purchased, it usually costs, what, 10-20 dollars?
Guess how much the band gets out of that:
50 cents IF they got an extremely good deal..
Some bands get mere dimes per CD sold.
That means a platnum selling artist (one million CDs sold) will get around $ 300,000 for the CDs, which is pocket change if they’re that famous.
Does knowing this change your mind?
I went to a show once and the lead singer told us to SCREW the RIAA. Download our music online and if you like it, come see our concert again because that means so much more to us.
Touring is where bands actually earn money. So I say, download the music and support your bands by going to see them live.
P.S. There are ways to make it untraceable when you download. It’s pretty simple, and the RIAA is only targeting universities right now anyway.
DG,
If a band has a platnum record then they ARE a top artist and would have NO problems selling out shows. Sure, the might not make it to small towns, but that is their choice to not tour as much as they could.
It is the RIAA that is pissed about this, not the bands.
Thanks for the input though.
Sarah,
Did you hear how Radio head released a CD on their website? They allowed you to pick your own price. You could put in $ 10.00 or you could put in 00.00 and either way you could still download it. A very cool idea, I think.
