I was wondering if any of you had ever heard of a job based online searching for new music and new artists for a record label or someone of that nature? Maybe something were you search facebook, myspace, twitter, etc. to find new artists. I don’t know if it is something that is done on a regular basis or if it’d be something to contact a company/label about. Thanks.

I believe you are just describing the responsibilities of most A&R agents and interns these days. Though it is not only limited to online searching they do spend a great deal of time monitoring the web and listening to new music for consideration. In addition, they attend plenty of live shows. Besides the record label’s staff, there are a few independent A&R companies like Taxi which screen music and new artists to submit to labels. So overall, your idea is not “new” to the labels.
