Tennessee – Arrested Development (1992)

“Tennessee” is the title of a number-one R&B single by alternative hip-hop group Arrested Development, from their debut album “3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days In The Life Of…”. The song contains a sample of Prince’s “Alphabet Street”. The album’s chart success was the beginning of the popularization of Southern hip-hop. “3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days In The Life Of…” stood in stark contrast to the gangsta rap that ruled the hip-hop charts in 1992 in its focus on spirituality, peace and love. The album’s title refers to the length of time it took Arrested Development to get a record contract. “Tennessee” spent one week at number-one on the US R&B chart. The song also found success on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #6. Thischannel is dedicated to all the great rap music from back in the day. He signed to Profile Records in the summer of 1990, reportedly as the label’s first six figure signee. His debut album, Quik Is the Name, which was released in 1991, was led by the success of two top 20 R&B singles, “Tonite” and “Born and Raised in Compton.” The album ended up reaching 10th on the album charts, and being certified Platinum by the RIAA. None of his successive albums reached the success of his debut, though they have been well received. He later released his second album entitled Way 2 Fonky in 1992. It was certified Gold by October 9. It included the smash hits “Way 2 Fonky” and “Jus Lyke Compton” The album later reached the 24th spot on Chris Rocks’ list of the 25 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums Ever.. His third album Safe & Sound, released in 1995, made number 14 on the Billboard 200. It included the tracks
