So this guy tried to add me on face-book…is this a scam?

Question by Hannah 🙂: So this guy tried to add me on face-book…is this a scam?
So I got on and there was a request from this guy.
His name is Ryan Nordsturm and he sent me this message saying Hey. I know this is super random but I work for a production location company in Chicago and we were hired by a few bands to look into having a huge three-day music festival in (I took out my citys name). The primary driving force behind this festival is Panic! At the Disco and Fall Out Boy. Some of the bands that have signed on to do this thing are Silversun Pickups, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Matt and Kim, Girl Talk, Death Cab for Cutie, Kid Cudi, Drake, Gym Class Heroes and Blink 182. The idea is having a huge festival at little to no cost to those that attend. We’re looking at doing this sometime next summer (June or July 2010) so they wanted me to contact some people in the area to get their take on the whole thing.

I hope you don’t think this is spam and don’t respond because if we want to do it there, we definitely need some input from the people there before we give the area a closer look. Anyway, if you could get back to me, that’d be awesome. Hope to hear from you soon”

Well I answered back saying that my city is really small and that it a very VERY odd location to have it.
He responded back with Thanks for getting back to me, Hanah. The guys from Panic! and I will likely be headed out there in next month, and could def. use some tour guides if you and some of your friends are up for it and can keep a secret. If you’re not up for it, that’s totally alright, but I figured I’d try to hook you up for responding to this.

I was just talking to Brendon, the band’s lead singer, and I told him that you had been helpful with everything and he said that if you wanted to, you could add him on here (He has a profile under a fake name for privacy reasons). Anyway, the link to his profile is below and if you think of anything else you think we should know before we head out that way, please let me know. I figure you can never know too many good people and Brendon is truly one of this business’ kindest people. Thanks again for all your help.

(I took out the link.)

Oh, I almost forget to mention, if you have any interest in concert promotion or the music industry in general, let me know and if we end up doing this friggin’ thing out there, we’ll see what we can do to help you along there. Let me know if this link doesn’t work or something. I’ll let Brendon know that you’ll be adding him so please do that so I don’t look like a moron. Ha.

I added the Brenden guy just for the heck of it and got this message hey. I had a couple minutes before I head out, but I wanted to say hey for helping out with everything. That’s really cool of you and we definitely appreciate it. This idea is something we’ve been kicking around for a long time and want very badly to do at some point. Of course, it’s all totally conceptual at this point but we definitely appreciate you being cool enough to at least lend us your input. We definitely appreciate your help. Anyway, do you have a screen name? I’m on AIM pretty much constantly, and I’d love to get to talk to you for a bit. Get back to me. Thanks -B

So my question is: is this some creepy scam? It sure sounds like it. I would never give out personal information. But I just find it strange that they would want to have a concert in my EXTREMLY small city.
Thoughts?

you dont know these people and yet they want you to help and be a tour guide? delete them, you don’t know these people from anything or what they’re really looking for. If it’s a real band & company they wouldn’t be trying to contact strangers off of facebook.
