Hi, I am a college freshman i plan on using this laptop for 6 or more years. I will also use this laptop for music and sports and movies. Please reccomend anything. PLEASE I AM A TOTAL NEWB AT THIS!

Your specs are way better than mine, and I had a dell 6 years ago and I’m still using it. You don’t need to upgrade. Just have some basic maintenance tips:
Use antivirus (avast, avg, avira)
Use spyware searches (spybot, adaware)
Defrag monthly
CCleaner weekly
Vacuum your fan (sounds weird, but it keeps it clean), once every 6 months (this is the only problem I have with mine, the fan stopped working, wish I did this more frequently)
Use revo to uninstall any programs, but use only trusted programs
Don’t search the net as admin, use a limited user account
Backup weekly on external
Don’t use limewire, keep all discs that came with your computer
Shut down your computer daily
Get an extra laptop battery
