Question by Shot Gun: Regarding a very interesting quote I read on RYM…?
“music nerds love slint for deconstructing rock by simplifying it. soulja boy has essentially done the same to hip-hop and yet he seems to be universally loathed. granted, his success seems a bit disproportionate to his talents, but we live in an age of digital distribution and memetic consciousness. soulja boy has blurred the lines between subculture in-joke and mainstream success, all the while creating his own genre in “snap”. soulja boy is the herald of a new age of music. soulja boy is tomorrow. embrace it.

This was particularly interesting for me, because I actually just relistened to Spiderland after realizing that I had no memory whatsoever of what it sounded like. I do see what he means.
So: Is his point legitimate? Thoughts? I assume it’s something of a joke (his review, not the album) but does that lessen whatever it is he’s saying?

That reminds Me of the essays I used to write in College. In other words 35 lines of bull—- and a smokescreen.
He wouldn’t know a point if a lance took Him right in the middle of the breastbone if he thinks Solja Boy is anything other that the worst sort of corporate-created garbage on Earth.
