Record Labels?
Question by smile for rainie 🙂: Record Labels?
If part of a record label, is the recording studio owned by the label? What does a record label headquarters building consist of — does it include the recording studio? Is this where recording artists will meet with their agents/management team to discuss future albums, etc.?
Any information related to record label HQs and such would be great. I’m working on a story that requires some knowledge of this information. I’m pretty much just wondering when and where bands would meet with their record label, where they would record, etc. The band in question is American, and the label is not part of the Big Four labels, but not completely “indie.” It’s a somewhat large company.
Thank you!
Anything pertaining to music record labels and what bands do during tours and while recording an album is helpful!

Well, this kinda varies. Some artists record in big label buildings, but mostly when they are first starting out. Any bigtime producer has his own recording studio which is either in some building he has either rented out or owns, or in his own house. Scott Storch, Timbaland, Dr. Dre huge hip hop and pop music producers have studios in their houses. The matrix is another group that produces tons of todays music, and they have their own place too. So the label buildings are like the business end of a record label and they do all the accounting and legal issues, meetings, marketing department, photo shoots sometimes, etc out of the buildings, but most of the recording comes from either big producers or bands private recording studios. Hope that helps its kind of a complicated question which is specific to which label and or artist and or producer you’re talking about. I tried to generalize as much as possible.
