questions for a music label?

Question by nilbog2021: questions for a music label?
ive received a message for the first time from a label who says they are interested in “trying my vocals with their artists to create some songs.” this is a small label out of denmark and it is for electronic music. because this will be my first time really talking about doing something professional, i want to make sure i handle it right. in the past ive only done studio recordings for my own personal demo or to help out friends who were shopping songs. so there was either no money involved or the agreements were very informal between friends. i am supposed to have a skype interview, and i would love some advice on what i should be asking for in terms of my rights and payment. or if anyone has any information on legalities…it’s not big enough at least yet to require a lawyer to read some contract or anything…but i just want to get off on the right foot for now. thanks for any advice!

Well obviously take it because it’s your start. Ask about percentages, like what percentage of writing rights do you get. I think there’s 3 different types of writes for a song in the music business. But at least in America they will screw you! So really get all the facts before you get overly excited and work. Look what happened to the Beatles, greatest rock band of all time, but don’t own the music. Why? Because they were overly excited and signed. Don’t become them, well, become them lol, but don’t make that mistake lol. And maybe since you’re doing this in Denmark, you’ll get a bigger deal in America some day if you’re good enough! Good luck!
