Q&A: Writing a contract for my music project?
Question by Emily T: Writing a contract for my music project?
My friend and I are doing a musical together next year for a school project, and I felt it would be a good idea to draw up a contract stating each of our responsibilities and how we would deal with conflicts and stuff like that, so that we can remain friends at the end of it!
So I was wondering what you would include in this contract? I’ve covered the basics, like who’s in charge of the script, the score, casting, the stage crew, the pit… and also what to do if one person decides to back out. But what else would you put in, if this was your project?

A written contract for any project or service is the best way to go, but there are risks involved, whether with or without a contract when dealing with friends in the process.
Dependant upon how strong your friendship is could determine the outcome without a falling out. Your best option is to sit and coordinate with your friend and work it out together to a mutual agreement.
Some friends might exclaim, “But I’m your friend! You don’t need a contract with me!” This is when your friendship is put to the test.
I wish you success.
