Question by Preemo: Why is it so hard to get a job at a record label? ?
I’m a business management/music business grad. but have been unable to get a position at a record label. I have since gotten a position at a digital media company which is ok but my goal is to work my way up the ladder at a major record label. I have 2 semesters of internship experience at 2 different labels but still haven’t gotten any responses back for positions that I’m very qualified for.

Same reason it is so hard to be a rock and roll star. There are tens of thousands of aspiring singers out there & only a few make it. The rest will settle for working at a record label. So you have a lot of competition.
It is not a field that is expanding quickly, so there isn’t a lot of need for replacements or for new management talent.
Walmart opens hundreds of new superstores a month, so there is always a dire need to fill management positions with that company. How many new record labels pop up each month? How many business managers quit their jobs and need to be replaced each month?
You are in a very competitive industry.
