Q&A: When purchasing a home on a land contract, what would the owner present to the buyer in the form of paperwork?
Question by lindamarie: When purchasing a home on a land contract, what would the owner present to the buyer in the form of paperwork?
I want to be sure that I’m not taken for a ride on this home. As I’ve heard of various scams that people play. Other than the actual land contract agreement, would I the buyer be entitled or even automatically shown any type o f ownership papers, such as a title

I see your point and probably the best way to check on the ownership of the land, house, property, you’re thinking of buying would be to call or visit the County Clerk’s office, of the county where the property is located, and ask them the owner of record. All you should need would be the address. Then you would know if the person selling you the property really owns it. The clerk’s office should also be able to tell you if there are any liens or incumbrances on the property.
