Q&A: Some advice please form music producers, musicians, etc.?
Question by NG: Some advice please form music producers, musicians, etc.?
I am a singer/lyricist currently looking for a producer to help me record my first demo as promote me. I have been for an audition to a studio in london, which has advertised that they are looking for new talent. They basically said they would like to work with me, help me record professional demo tracks and then send them over to the record companies they currently work with.
There’s a catch!I have to pay £1000 for the three tracks. The thing is, I do not expect everything to be free, but sure this is way too much, or is it?
Could anyone who actually knows more about the business help me out with this one? I would like to know if this is a standard procedure, if the fees are really this high, and whether there should be a contract involved? Please advise 🙂

I am not a professional musician but I have seen this in the modelling business, Agencies tell girls how great they will be in theri modelling careers and charge exhorbitant amounts to take their photos for a portfolio.
I would gues that this may be similar i the music business. They make money charging people like you for studio time.
I have recording equipment at home on which I can record, mix and make my own cds. I paid about a thousand for the whole setup. I bet you can find someone who has simliar eqipment and can help you for much less.
