can i still use the wifi to browse youtube and the internet, listen ot my music, wtch videos and more without a contract? i just want it for the ipod. would it work still?

You would still have to activate it, but there are ways to work around it. I won’t go into detail, use google.com for a search. Many people are in your position.
May I suggest buying an iPod Touch instead? It has many of the features the iPhone has, and all of the ones you specifically mentioned, at a lower price for more memory.
