Question by D T: I would like to start a small general contracting business but I don’t know how or where to start.?
How would I go about starting a small general contracting business? Not really with construction per say, but with different jobs for the city or the government. For example, elevator repair for a city building, landscaping for a city park, roofing repair for a city building. I have no experiance in contracting but I have the money and the time. And some city contracts seems to be very profitable. Also, this is a HUGE question for me. I was wondering could a job be done using 100% subcontractors?

1)- If you are in California and want to do the work yourself, The first step is to get a license.Many states, counties and cities require licenses and all of them require bonds of all kinds. Some of them not too easy to get.
2)- You may try at becaming the midle person.
3)- You can partnerup with somebody established. There are a lot of license contractors but no money to do the job with. OR……
