Q&A: How do I get a job working with bands?
Question by nariRIOT: How do I get a job working with bands?
I love music, LOVE IT! It would be a dream job to work in an atmosphere with music. Im not an artist, songwriter, or anything. I just am a huge fan of music and want to work around it.
Can anyone give me a job description of someone who works in
*band management
*band publicity
*band booking
*etc.
Will I need a degree? If so, in what? Who do I need to contact? Where can I get some experience that will get my foot in the door?
I will do anything to get in the door. I will be a coffee girl, run arrands, file paper work, ANYTHING, ANYWHERE where it counts as cred to get in the bussiness. Any information or advice you can give would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

Are you technically oriented? The think about the positions you mentioned is that they are kind of “flaky”. It’s hard to make much money doing them, and you tend to deal with people who are pretty undesireable and unsavory. But if you were some kind of technician, say a light show tech for concerts or a music engineer/producer that mixes music in a studio, that could actually get you somewhere, especially if you eventually start your own production company. And it’s a pretty “normal” job, a 9-5 kind of lifestyle that would still allow you to have a family life someday. Look into it!
