Question by busymom4boyz: has anyone ever had any dealing With company called Sharper Music Inc or Sharper promotions? ?
This is a supposed promoter and music company that is out of Georgia. They have come to a local church here claiming big things for some of the musicians and it sounds really fishy to me. They are trying to get people to sign these bogus looking contracts and asking for money up front to promote their music. Just hate to see people taken advantage of and can’t seem to find much info on them anywhere except their self promoting website. Any info woudl be great

I can’t give you any info on the actual company, but I have dealt with promoters like this in the past.
I am a professional musician, both in sacred music (parish music director) and secular music (member of a few bands and sound engineer).
I can tell you that any time a promoter is asking for money up front from the performer, a major “red flag” should be waving high. Of course a promoter/agent is looking to make money off the performers talent. A legitimate promoter/agent will use the performers talent to benefit both parties by booking jobs, recording, marketing and generally promoting the talent.
Sometimes a promoter asking for “front money” is basically saying – I don’t have confidence in your product (talent) therefore, you pay for the recording, marketing, etc. and I’ll see what I can do with it….” Best case is the performer actually gets work or CD sales, worst case is the performer gets nothing for his/her money.
Contracts are serious business and should be reviewed not only by an attorney, but by someone who has experience in the entertainment business. A bad contract can be the downfall of a person if handled the wrong way.
Hope my insight helps you……
