Q&A: Good universities that offer a major in Music Business?

Question by Jamie Skips: Good universities that offer a major in Music Business?
I was looking at full sail, but it’s outrageously priced.

I want to be a music producer, and way into the future, start my own record company.

I don’t really care where the school is, or whether it’s public or private.

Please be aware that full sail is ONLY nationally accredited which is not even the minimum regional accreditation that is required for the school to possibly be reputable. You may already know, but the music industry is supposed to be very competitive and even those with a college (four-year) degree form an accredited program in music may have difficulty finding work. For accredited schools of music: http://nasm.arts-accredit.org and can click “member lists” on the left-hand side of the page and then scroll down to the drop-down bar to click ones state of residence.

It’s best to avoid those private For-profit schools as most are merely out to “make a profit” (and their course credits usually do NOT transfer to other schools). The local community college or public/state university is usually a better choice(s).

These consumer sites have negative posts by former students about those private overly priced For-profit schools such as penn foster, ashworth, devry, ITT tech, strayer, everest, brown mackie, anthem, colorado tech, argosy, capella, ashwood, stratford career, walden, grand canyon, kaplan, university of phoenix, keiser, sanford brown, concorde career and others, and please heed the students’ warnings:
