And also describe his/her work? This can mean a producer with a distinctive “sound” like Phil Spector or a revolutionary technician like Joe Meek. Whichever, describe the “sound” and how it is/was produced and how this enhances the music.

Sir George Martin certainly comes to mind, mostly for his innovative use of multi-tracking and overdubbing. Without him people would still be “singing into a can” so to speak…
Scott Burns more or less defined the Florida metal scene in the late 80’s to the late 90’s with extremely compressed tracks, booming kick drums, crisp snares and the “screaming into a bucket” vocal recording technique.
