When you choose a new business name, make sure the domain name for your business web site is available. There is a real shortage of two-word domain names.
Also check with the Attorney-General in your state to see that the business name is not already in use.
You should also check that your new name doesn’t infringe on trademarks and copyrights that are already registered.
Event planning is a very personal business, so it makes sense to do business under your own name, such as Jane’s Event Planning, Smith Event Planning.
Don’t use a business name that is too narrow, because you might want to expand your offerings at a later date. A name like Jane’s Island Events is nice, unless you begin booking events in Kansas City.
Other guidelines for a business name.
Make it easy to say, easy to spell and easy to remember.
If you will rely on business leads from phone directories and other lists, start your name with AAA to get first place alphabetically.
