Ownership of publishing rights to bands catalog?
Question by Jaded: Ownership of publishing rights to bands catalog?
If a band is about to jump ship from their current record company and sign a deal with another, but the original recording company still holds the publishing rights to the bands catalog….what exactly does this mean for the band?
Does the publishing rights extend to live performances?
i am just wondering as this area is confusing and i know that the last time this band changed companies..(back in the very beginning) they were subsequently not allowed to perform live the songs from their first album.
So would a new deal with a new label leave them unable to perform current and past hits without forking out for the ‘privilege’ or do the rights only extend so far as radio, tv , movies, promo etc etc?
i know this is a confusing question, but next album from band isnt able to be released until contract negotiations have concluded and a few of us fans are wondering what to expect out of this when it comes to touring.
