I want to have a career in the music industry but I dont know all my options or how to catagorize the things i want to do. My main interest right now is in the promotions/marketing. I need to decide what sorts of courses to take. Should I take the business road? The things I want to be involved with are dealing with different charity programs like war child or campaigns like “Make poverty history”. Deciding which countries are worth selling to or playing in. Dealing with requests for appearances or interviews from radio stations or magazines or tv shows. I want to be involved with are things like making deals with other companies such as HMV or iTunes, getting the music in stores. That sort of stuff. Would you know anything about that?

Hi V-

I would definitely take a general business course with a good sprinkling of marketing in there also. Some universitites are offering music management in their course load so double check to see what specific music management courses are out there.

I would also INTERN at any and all music companies you may have access to, whether a major label, or a local radio station. The exposure to current events is a great addition to any resume.
