Looking for a music manager..?

Question by Heather Reilly: Looking for a music manager..?
My name is Heather, i’m 15 years old, from the UK.
I’ve always loved to sing, i’ve performed at alot small events around where i live, and would like to progress further..
My family and friends are of great support and say i have real potential.
It’s always been my dream to be in the music industry, so i’ve looked into it, and it appears in order to get me started, i would need a manager, for organising events etc.
through the internet i can’t seem to find any way of finding or contacting a manager. Im hoping that you can help me out by giving me websites or emails for managers,
thank you so much!

nobody is going to work for a no-named kid. the manager has to make money, and if he can’t make money trying to book someone that no one has heard of. the shows that could be booked wouldn’t make enough to pay you and himself. for a manager to work with you you have to prove yourself as a valuable commodity.

remember, just because your friends and family say you are good, that doesn’t mean you are good enough to make it in the music industry. friends and family say what you want to hear, so don’t think you are better than any of the other hundreds of thousands of people trying to find a career in music.

to start out you need to make a name for yourself. start with myspace music and youtube. those sites are free, and if you can build a fan base, that shows that you are marketable. next, keep performing at every event possible. next record a demo. you can usually purchase the equipment needed to record yourself cheaper than it costs to book a professional studio.

once you’ve built a fan base, and have a name for yourself, managers and record labels will find you. but you have to put the work in first.
