Panorama Of George Julian Zolnay’s Allegorical “Academic, Business & Manual Education” Granite Frieze At Francis L. Cardozo High School (Washington, DC)
"Zolnay followed the custom of the sculptors of ancient Rome in perpetuating in stone the faces of the men directly responsible for the erection of the building. Among others, the sculptor portrayed William B. Ittner, the architect; Snowden Ashford, the architect of the District of Columbia; and Emory M. Wilson, the principal of the school. The original records specifying the exact location of these and other prominent men among the allegorical Neoclassical figures of the three panels have, unfortunately, been lost." — James M. Goode, The Outdoor Sculpture of Washington, DC (1974), p. 422.
My panorama is a mite bit crooked but if you view large you can see the faces pretty well.
Anyone recognize which is which?
Or can anyone name the others?
Is Cardozo among them somewhere?
