Is the “new music seminar” worth it?

Question by Luke: Is the “new music seminar” worth it?
There’s a “New music seminar” in Chicago. I’m in a band and it sounds like a cool way to learn to break into the music industry but I’m looking to hear from people who actually went to one. Does the seminar help with contacts, insider information, etc?? We want to get our songs out there. Thanks and please let me know if you’ve been to one.

It depends on who’s sponsoring it and how much it costs to register. Check out the sponsors on the search engines, see who they are and what their qualifications are. Do they have contacts in the music and/or radio industry(s). That’s the basics.

Would you have a chance to perform or just turn in a CD/DVD along with a hundred other bands? Are the seminars about the business of music or how to play a difficult bass riff? These are the questions you need to ask yourself and research.

EDIT: There’s lots of results from a search and it’s sponsored by Gibson and other legit sponsors, so it might be worthwhile. Do some searching on Yahoo or Google (guess i gotta start adding Bing, too). You’ll find lots of info.
