Question by drkessence: Is it legal to use video game music in machinima?
I was just wondering if it is legal to use video game soundtracks in machinima. I don’t mean the soundtrack from the game used to make the machinima. I’m talking about using a bunch of different game’s soundtracks. Obviously, it’s no big deal if you don’t make money off of it, but I do so it would really help to know so I don’t have to keep buying music licenses.

Under intellectual property law, these songs have the same copyright protections as anything the most popular bands in the world put out, so treat them accordingly. If you’re not making money off of them and not “distributing” them via youtube, bittorrent, etc…, they probably won’t ever come after you, but that is still technically a violation of copyright laws without a license.
