is it legal for a business to convert music files for clients?

Question by jim: is it legal for a business to convert music files for clients?
We use ffmpeg and similar open source tools to allow users to upload their audio or video files. We then convert them to either mp3 or mp4 to make them playable on ipods.
I have been reading the license agreements for mp3 and mp4 and have not been able to determine if we are in violation of anything by converting to these formats.
I was considering using Vorbis OGG…
Any thoughts?
Thank you!
I do not need a converter… We have one already. I am looking for information regarding whether we need a license in order to convert a user’s audio file into an mp3 or AAC format. Thanks!
