Question by blackgenius: If you record at a studio does that entitle the engineer to production credit?
I’m asking for a friend. He went to a studio and the guy had him sign a contract agreeing to negotiate points on an album if he gets a major deal. He sat with him in terms of getting a mix on the song but he wasn’t there from a creative perspective. The track, song lyrics, and hook were already set before he came to the studio. He hasn’t mastered the song and is wondering if he should just scrap it and go somewhere else. This guy didn’t produce anything…or did he?

Without the ‘ear’ of the Engineer your friend’s recording could possibly sound like crap!!!!!!! The engineer does a lot of creative work in that booth inwhich he should get credit because what he’s doing IS very valuable and no 2 engineers are gonna output the exact same product. If you don’t think the Engineer is valuable then why do you have one? LOL! They work closely with the Producer to acheive the sound of the recording. Engineering is both technical AND creative; whereas ‘Mastering’ is all technical and will not change the content of the product. The Engineer decides (along with the producer) all the highs and lows and of every voice and every note and even every bit of silence. They certainly deserve credit!!!!!!!!!!
