I would like to become a lawyer for musicians with contracts, record deals, advice giving where should?

Question by Sir K: I would like to become a lawyer for musicians with contracts, record deals, advice giving where should?
…I go as far as a college is concerned?

First of all, what TYPE of lawyer would that be considered? A business lawyer, corporate lawyer? (I want to know what to major in.)

Secondly, what are the top colleges for producing the best of those types of lawyers?

Really, I want to be a musician but will be using law as an economic boost to get a foundation to jump off from. If I can make connections in the music industry on the way… all the better.

The area of law that interests you is entertainment law. It’s basically corporate or business law with an emphasis on things related to entainment industry such as contracts, copyrights, etc. It doesn’t really matter where you get your undergraduate degree. For law school, you may want to pick a school in California or New York. Often, it’s best to attend law school in the state where you want to practice law and there are more entertainment law opportunities in California and New York. In California, one of the top schools is UCLA and in New York, a top entertainment law school is NYU.
