For the most part, yes, you will need to be licensed by ASCAP, BMI, SESAC and SoundExchange to play music online.
It is possible to get waivers for bands that direct-license with you; in other words, they hold all of the rights and can do this.
the easiest way to deal with it is to use a streaming provider such as Live365.com or LoudCity that offer packages with royalties included.
