Question by Ryan M: I think I go to bed too late and I sleep the wrong hours and eat wrong please help?
I am 21 years old, male. Since I was 15 I ran a business out of my home. Now I have grown into a small distribution company. Today makes probably a good 2 years that I have been running a weird schedule. I go to sleep at about 4am, sometimes later and don’t get up till about 12 or 1 PM in the afternoon. Some days I will stay up until about 5 or 5:30 am and get up about 1 or 2pm. I do this everyday. Can anyone tell me if this is a normal schedule? I’m trying to put on some more weight and stuff but I can’t have breakfast when I’m getting up that late in the afternoon. So, half the time I’m not even tired to go to bed at EVEN 1AM let alone 10PM or 11PM. I’m just not tired. Is that because I drink a 2 liter Pepsi everyday? I tried going to bed once at 1Am and I stayed awake until like 4AM.
I am capable of staying awake for 30 hours straight before I pass out. I have stayed up for 30 hrs a couple times when I had no other choice because I had many things to do. For the past 2 years the reason why I go to sleep at 4am is because half the night I’m working through emails and responding to customers, keeping busy, packaging shipments, and so forth. I take a little break in between and watch TV and stuff and I listen to music while i work. The music gets me in the mood. HAHA. But seriously, I need to consume at least 2000 calories a day and it think my eating habits are bad. I already made a commitment to stop fast foods. I started to go on a good diet this week by consuming 2056 calories on Monday because I woke up and got up around 9am and on Tuesday I consumed 1900 calories, and Wednesday, I lost it. I just got up so late that I messed my day up. And today I only had about 500 or 700 calories. I am excising as well and only consuming calories from healthy foods, no junk food.
What do I need to do as far as it goes to get on a good sleep schedule and eat healthy? For a 21year old, what time should I go to bed?
Please help.

Pepsi is not good for you, have you tried drinking water when you are thirsty? If you are sensitive to caffeine then you should stop drinking all drinks that have caffeine, several hours before your bedtime.
Living so many hours in the night is not normal and studies have shown that people who work night shifts, have a shorter life span.
To change your eating and sleeping habits, try and go to bed one hour earlier and get up one hour earlier. And after a few weeks, again another hour changed. Too big a change all at once is harder for your body to adjust to, that would be just like jet lag.
And try and eat a piece of fruit as soon as you get up. It is easy to digest and most people can eat that on an empty stomach. You need to take a few pieces a day so might as well start early.
And you will be saving on electricity because you can use the morning daylight instead of burning the midnight oil. Are you getting 15 minutes of sunshine on your skin every day? You need that to make sure your body makes enough vitamin D.
