There are loads of areas in life where financial transactions are mandatory, for example it is the daily bread & butter of people employed in insurance Companies, joint stock corporations, shareholding consultants,investment firms, banks, law firms etc!

A monetary transacation for a fixed period of time takes place, also there are witnesses to that transaction!

But the Quran says that one woman’s witness in these occations is half that of a man!

YUSUFALI: O ye who believe! When ye deal with each other, in transactions involving future obligations in a fixed period of time, reduce them to writing Let a scribe write down faithfully as between the parties: let not the scribe refuse to write: as Allah Has taught him, so let him write. Let him who incurs the liability dictate, but let him fear His Lord Allah, and not diminish aught of what he owes. If they party liable is mentally deficient, or weak, or unable Himself to dictate, Let his guardian dictate faithfully, and get two witnesses, out of your own men, and if there are not two men, then a man and two women, such as ye choose, for witnesses, so that if one of them errs, the other can remind her.

PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! When ye contract a debt for a fixed term, record it in writing. Let a scribe record it in writing between you in (terms of) equity. No scribe should refuse to write as Allah hath taught him, so let him write, and let him who incurreth the debt dictate, and let him observe his duty to Allah his Lord, and diminish naught thereof. But if he who oweth the debt is of low understanding, or weak, or unable himself to dictate, then let the guardian of his interests dictate in (terms of) equity. And call to witness, from among your men, two witnesses. And if two men be not (at hand) then a man and two women, of such as ye approve as witnesses, so that if the one erreth (through forgetfulness) the other will remember.

There are constantly monetary transactions in the real world today, how will all this be possible by employing a woman if her witness is worth only half that of a man’s, so that there will always be the need to employ two women, the moment a woman is employed?

Has an insurance company to employ 2 women, so that during the meetings with clients, one can remind the other? Or a bank will have to pay the salary of two women? Or a stockbroker, law firm will have to employ two women?

Why will anyone want to employ an additional person for this task? Won’t the Companies prefer to hire only men then?

In today’s world, in many countries a majority of University Graduates are women, obviously they couldn’t complete University studies if they were that forgetful & stupid! Many, even a majority of lawyers, in some countries are women, they have to deal with financial transactions on a daily basis, are we to conclude that they’re dumb, even if they’re so successful?

Even before Muhammaddeclared himself the last Judeo Christian Prophet, his first wife Khadija was one of Arabia’s most successful business “people”, not just business “woman”!

Obviously, she had to handle a lot of money, more than many men, & she must be an expert at money handling as she made so much more money than most men of her time! Are we to imagine that she’s so stupid & forgetful that she needed another female at all times with her, to remind her what she forgot?

Hope some “Brother” will reply a relavant answer.
What I belive is if you have lot’s of does and don’ts you are bound to make mistakes. And religion should be for making life easier not “Stagnating” to perticular ERA….
