Question by Joie: How do you start promoting your band?
My bf asked me to look up stuff about agents and booking to get information on how to promote a band. I’ve found somethin called booking and promotion companies that you have to pay to sign up for and they get you shows and stuff. Is this what I’m looking for, or is that a scam? Do you just need like a music agent? Can anyone give me any links to information on this?

Before you go with an agent (who can cost you a lot of money), you really ought to start by building a base. You don’t need an agent to contact local venues and play local shows, nor do you need an agent for the internet.

I’m not saying that an agent can’t be useful, but there has to be a quality product there for him to sell first, no matter the quality of the agent.
