Nowadays, self-promote the crap out of yourself. Youtube, myspace, twitter, etc. If you’re good, you’ll attract fans and then you can assemble a press kit to send to the record labels. Find out who the A&R people are. (“Artists & Repetiore.”) Those are the people responsible for actually finding and keeping new talent. Address everything directly to them. (“To whom it may concern” or “Dear Sony Records” will get you deleted/thrown in the trash with the quickness.)
