How do you become a music/record producer?

Question by Lovestruck Demon: How do you become a music/record producer?
Is there an entry level position in the field, or a specific major one should study in college to get that type of career? I really want to produce and record music, but I don’t want to actually be in a band, and I don’t know where to go from here.

look into sound engineering. its offered at many universities
