How do I start my own music editing business?
Question by MayV23: How do I start my own music editing business?
I want to be able to cut and edit music to create several different CDs. Kind of like a “NOW26” idea but I would be targeting a different group. How would I do that legally? I would like it to be my own business to be able to sell to this certain target group. THanks.

anyone can create a compilation cd – you just have to make sure you have all the royalty agreements in order – I don;t even think you need teh artist’s permission to include the songs – you cannot EDIT anyone else’s music without their permission – which I doubt they would give
read up on music royalties on the internet – you have to pay a deposit or fee for each song you use and then for every copy of the cd you sell, you have to pay royalties – which are about 1.8 cents per minute of song, so that comes out to about $ 1.10 per 60 minutes of music – then you have costs to manufacture, label teh cd, create packaging, advertising, etc – doubtful you will sell enough to even cover your costs
