How do I copyright an album my record label is releasing?

Question by the sludge: How do I copyright an album my record label is releasing?
I am putting out a split CD of two small independent metal bands. Do I need a signed contract from both bands to copyright the release for my label? How do I go about the copyrighting process?

I’m not sure how this would work out properly. I think you might need to have a entertainment lawyer. They usually take care of the legal and copyright issues in a label or band. Otherwise you could try asking in the ‘law’ section on yahoo! answers. You might find something more helpful there.
