First, forget going to a major label. They get tons of unsolicited material constantly which they ignore. Second, record companies contract with “Rack Jobbers” who do the actual distribution. Third, even if you had a track record of sales for your CD, most likely the majors would want to re-record the album. I can only think of two bands Dave Mason and Boston where a major actually used the artist’s original master. Fourth, majors find their own talent by sending out A&R people to scout potential acts.
