Question by Jacob Stanton: Hey guys. What I wanted to know is really what kind of class you take to major in music.?
Im a junior in highschool and the only real thing I have going for me is guitar. I started in about 8th grade and honestly hacent made the most improvements in the world. I play mostly Hendrix and am in the process of learning notation. I don’t like anything else and I definetly want to do something with guitar. So what kind of things do you take in music major and how hard is it really? Also, do I have to take classes like foreign language and math? My plan is to major in music and possibly minor in business which i know would require math courses for the minor. My parents are convinced that the music business francly sucks at the time and I almost agree. Is this really the way I should go or should i just settle for the average american and work in an office?

Well what do you want to do with your life? If you want to play guitar in a band, go out there and start a band! It will be hard, but all the best bands work their way from the bottom up! Put yourself on youtube and show off your skills. At the least you’ll be able to get some feedback.
In high school I’d focus on taking music theory and any guitar-related classes. Piano classes might help too because you would be building more skills and learning a lot about the techniques of music. Do all you can to put yourself out there and get people to hear you- talent shows, maybe playing in different shops, even on the streets if you live in a safe town (with someone there with you for safety).
And if you go to college it doesn’t matter what degree you’re doing, you ALWAYS have to take math. If you get a bachelors of arts (which you’d probably want for music, or you might be required to) you’re required to take foreign language classes.
