Groundbreakers and Music Makers: The First Generation of Orchestral Women
Published April 19, 2011
Three pioneering female classical musicians—Jacqui Danilow, bass player at the Metropolitan Opera for thirty years; Laura Flax, principal clarinetist at the New York City Opera since 1984; and Orin O’Brien, member of the New York Philharmonic since 1966—tell their stories and discuss the path of upcoming professional female musicians. Moderated by Deborah Siegel, author of Sisterhood, Interrupted: From Radical Women to Grrls Gone Wild. This event took place at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art on June 13, 2009.
