UAW chief says Cat contract is best it could do without strike
The new contract between Caterpillar Inc. and the United Auto Workers is better than the one it replaced because the company let loose of some money, the head of UAW Local 974 said Monday. While workers hired before Jan. 10, 2005, will not receive a wage increase during the life of the new six-year agreement, other employees will see financial gains, said Dave Chapman, president of Local 974.
